VIDEO: Montclair blanks crosstown rival Montclair Kimberley | ||

Both the boys' soccer teams at Montclair and Montclair Kimberley saw a great deal of roster turnover from last year to this fall. But in the first meeting of the season for the crosstown rivals, Montclair maintained its clear edge over the Cougars. The Mounties scored a 2-0 road triumph in the Super Essex Conference matchup. Ned Michalitsianos scored one goal for Montclair while the other was credited as an own-goal.
Quinn Baity and Chris Masur had assists for the Mounties. While the score was close, the shots on goal statistics reflect Montclair's thorough control of the game. MKA goalie John Baney made 10 saves, while Mounties keeper Phillip Martin was credited with just one save. Despite those lopsided numbers, though, MKA very nearly tied the game early in the second half. An apparent goal for the Cougars was waved off on a very tight offside call. Just a few minutes later, Michalitsianos scored to give Montclair some breathing room. The Mounties are now 2-1-1 on the season, while MKA falls to 0-3.
