The West Orange boys' soccer team is off to a tremendous start this season, and the Mountaineers finished off the month of September in fine form. Controlling play throughout, West Orange recorded a 4-0 shutout win over Montclair Kimberley for their eighth straight win. Dan Romain scored twice for the Mountaineers. Romain headed in a long throw-in for the game's first goal, then converted a pass from Zach Ames early in the second half to give West Orange a comfortable three-goal lead.
Zach Brown converted a penalty kick and Kofi Addo also scored for the Mountaineers. Ames and Kamsi Udodi had two assists apiece. West Orange goalie Diego Pedrido was credited with three saves in the shutout. He faced one difficult shot, a free kick by Ahmed Abukwaik that Pedrido had to leap to parry over the crossbar. MKA goalie John Baney was under constant pressure during the game and made six saves. The Cougars fall to 2-4. At 8-0, West Orange faces a major test next week against Seton Hall Prep and meets a dangerous Millburn team two days later. The Mountaineers are currently ranked #12 in the state's Top 20 by the Star-Ledger.
