Dylan Ladda scored a goal, while goalie John Baney earned an assist to go along with six saves as Montclair Kimberley won on the road in the state boys' soccer playoffs. The Cougars scored twice in the first half in their 2-0 win over Dwight-Englewood. While MKA created significantly more chances in the game, both goals were somewhat fluky. The first came when a free kick by Ahmed Abukwaik caromed off a defender's head into the net for an own goal.
Then, late in the half, Baney sent a booming punt upfield that bounced past the defense. Ladda pounced on the chance and chipped the ball past the keeper into the net. The Cougars would have won by more had it not been for the efforts of Dwight-Englewood goalie Noah Erni. The senior made a number of strong saves, including a stop on a penalty kick. The Bulldogs, seeded fourth in the North Non-Public B state bracket, finish their season at 11-7-1. Montclair Kimberley, which struggled all season in the difficult Super Essex Conference, is now 5-10-2. The fifth-seeded Cougars travel to meet top seed Gill St. Bernard's in the sectional semifinals.
