VIDEO: West Morris works for win over West Essex | ||

West Morris Central football is never the flashiest or most explosive team. Instead, the Wolfpack relies on hard-nosed play and a tough running game to get the job done. That formula worked for West Morris in its match-up with West Essex. The Wolfpack controlled the game and scored a convincing 28-12 home win in a North Jersey Super Football Conference divisional crossover game.
Jake Congdon ran 10 times for 70 yards and a pair of touchdowns as West Morris built a 13-0 halftime lead. An interception return for a score by P.J. Wright made it 21-0 for the Wolfpack in the third quarter. Drew Lepre put West Essex on the board with an 88-yard kickoff return for a score, but the hosts answered back on Ryan Finlay's 23-yard touchdown pass to Peter Taylor to make it 28-6 after three quarters. West Essex scored in the fourth on Zach Lemanski's short touchdown pass to Brian O'Neill. But West Morris recovered the onside kick and ran out most of the remaining time to ice the victory. Cole Draghi carried 25 times for 96 yards for the Woldfpack. Finlay was 10-for-13 passing for 114 yards and the one score, with most of his passes going to Taylor. For West Essex, Vincent Scaglia had 55 rushing yards, while Lemanski went 7-for-12 passing for 53 yards. West Morris improves to 2-0 and will take on a more familiar foe this coming week, Morristown. West Essex is 1-1 and returns to Essex County to play Orange this weekend. For sports video highlights of this New Jersey and NJSFC high school football game, click play in the box at left. |
