Behind a big night from quarterback Sean Hopkins, Westwood made its journey into unfamiliar territory a successful one. The Cardinals led nearly the entire game en route to a 41-13 victory at Cedar Grove. Hopkins completed 13-of-15 passes for 256 yards and four touchdowns for Westwood. He also ran for 82 yards.
Sean McKay was the Cardinals' leading receiver, catching five passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. Joe Kramer made four catches for 54 yards and two touchdowns, while Jordan Rosenfeld had a 60-yard touchdown reception. Cole Lukasczyk powered the Westwood running game, carrying 20 times for 124 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Both of Cedar Grove's touchdowns came on passes from Sammy Ventola to Joe Rufo. The Panthers pulled within 7-6 in the second quarter, but Westwood responded with 34 consecutive points. This game was one of the unusual match-ups created by the new North Jersey Super Football Conference. Prior to this game, Westwood had not played against any Essex County school in at least 15 years. Westwood is now 4-2 and in strong position to reach the state football playoffs in North 1, Group II. Cedar Grove slips to 3-3 and into the midst of a scrum to make the states in North 1, Group I.
