The defense saved the day for Bergen Catholic in its football regular-season finale against Seton Hall Prep. While allowing just one touchdown, the Crusaders also scored on defense as they pulled out a 21-7 triumph. Jahmel Johnson returned a fumble 50 yards for the game's first score, but Seton Hall came back on the next drive to tie the game. The score remained knotted at 7-7 until Bergen Catholic put together a pair of touchdown drives in the second half.
Johnny Langan was extremely accurate for the Crusaders, completing 19 of his 21 passes for 210 yards. He also threw touchdown passes to Dylan Classi and Andrew Vito. Classi made seven catches for 51 yards and the score. Ankaury Camilo and Michael Feaster caught four passes apiece, for 69 and 55 yards respectively. The Crusaders were held under 100 yards rushing as a team, with Josh McKenzie's 43 yards the leading total. Defensively, Bergen Catholic had five sacks, with Erik Massey recording two. Cade McDermott intercepted two passes for the Crusaders. Seton Hall also made most of its yardage through the air, as Cameron Carti completed 14-of-26 passes for 170 yards. Andrew Perez made six catches for 70 yards and a touchdown, while Dwayne Warren caught four passes for 66 yards. The Pirates fall to 2-7. Despite that record, Seton Hall got the fifth seed in the Non-Public Group IV state playoffs and will visit Don Bosco Prep in next weekend's quarterfinal round. Bergen Catholic is 6-3 and holds the second seed in Non-Public Group IV. The Crusaders will need to step up their game, as they face a serious quarterfinal challenge from undefeated St. Augustine, the top-ranked team in South Jersey.
