VIDEO: Don Bosco scores late, survives upset bid from Seton Hall
Written by - Friday, November 11 2016

It was a classic first-round state football playoff game, with Seton Hall Prep poised to spring an upset until a late rally from Don Bosco Prep. Unfortunately, what will be most remembered from this contest was a controversial officials' call that spoiled a potential dramatic finish.

Don Bosco pulled out the 14-13 win after coming from behind on a drive in the final three minutes of the game. Tommy DeVito led the Ironmen downfield after being stifled by the Seton Hall defense and the weather conditions all night.

On the ensuing drive, Seton Hall completed a fourth-down pass to move into Don Bosco territory. Then on a third-and-10, Cameron Carti found Andrew Perez for a nine-yard gain along the sideline. But as Perez went out of bounds at the 25, the official ruled his forward progress had been stopped by a defender in the field of play, and kept the clock running.

Frantically, the stunned Pirates got a play off and spiked the ball with five seconds left. But it was fourth down, and Don Bosco took over to run out the clock.

Kevin Brennan had a touchdown run for the Ironmen and DeVito tossed the game-winning pass to Elijah Singh with 1:14 to play.

For Seton Hall, Cameron Carti had a strong game at quarterback, while Kyle Monangai and Michael Mughetto had touchdown runs. The fifth-seeded Pirates finish their season at 2-8.

Fourth-seeded Don Bosco is now 6-4, and will play top seed Paramus Catholic in next week's semifinals.
