"Snow kidding": county soccer finals, other games rescheduled | ||
|
The forecast for an unlikely October snowstorm is scrambling sports schedules in northwest New Jersey. The storm is expected to dump as much as a half-foot of snow or more on our area on Saturday, prompting some games to be postponed and others to be moved forward. The Morris County soccer tournament finals doubleheader, slated to start Saturday evening at 5:30 at Roxbury High School, will instead take place on Sunday afternoon at the same site. The girls' game between Randolph and Kinnelon will be played first, starting at noon. The boys' matchup between Chatham and Delbarton will follow at about 2:00.
The organizers of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex soccer tournaments are taking a different approach. The boys' and girls' finals, originally set to be a doubleheader at Vernon High School, will instead be played at separate locations, and both will begin at the extremely early hour of 9:00 AM. The girls' final between High Point and Belvidere will still take place at Vernon High School, while the boys' championship game, featuring Newton and Delaware Valley, was moved to Hackettstown High School. The snowstorm is also affecting the football schedule. At least three Saturday games have been pushed forward to the morning hours: Hackettstown at Kittatinny will begin at 10:00, while Mendham at Morris Knolls and West Morris at Morristown are set for 10:30. A number of regular-season contests are also being cancelled or postponed, and the Morris County cross-country championships, originally set for Saturday, will now take place Tuesday. |
