More snow trouble: soccer finals postponed again, football also affected | ||
|
Give the weather forecasters some credit: they nailed this one. The crazy October snowstorm came just as they predicted. Unfortunately, the weather is wreaking havoc with local sports schedules. The Morris County soccer finals, already pushed back a day from Saturday, have been postponed a second time due to the heavy snowfall. The games will not take place on Sunday; a decision on a new date and time for both the boys' and girls' finals will be decided soon.
Chatham will face Delbarton in the boys' game while Kinnelon meets Randolph in the girls' matchup. Most likely, the games will be pushed back to next weekend so as not to conflict with the state tournament. The Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament organizers did manage to finish their events by playing both finals at 9:00 in the morning. High Point won the girls' title by beating Belvidere, 1-0 in overtime, while Newton fell to Delaware Valley in the boys' final, 3-0. While a number of local football teams did manage to play through the heavy snow on Saturday afternoon, two games were postponed. The Delbarton-Randolph game, slated for Saturday night at Randolph, is now expected to be played on the day after Thanksgiving. Also, Wallkill Valley's game at Lawrenceville Prep was postponed, with no reschedule date announced. One other football game was suspended after kicking off during the worst of the weather. Dover led Morris Catholic 8-6 at halftime when the game was stopped; it will resume on Monday at 2:00 at that point. At least three state tournament field hockey games involving NJAC teams were also postponed; those games will likely be made up on Monday. |
