Villa Walsh had numerous chances in its girls' soccer sectional semifinal against Montclair Kimberley, but only found the net once. But when it counted, the Vikings were flawless, going 4-for-4 in the penalty kick shootout to advance to the sectional final. The shootout followed a 1-1 tie between the two sides, with Villa Walsh's Gianna Villoresi scoring with about 11 minutes left in regulation to push the game to overtime. Villoresi's goal came after she corralled a ball headed forward by Reagan Sharkey.
Both sides had good chances in the two overtime sessions, but goalies Sean Sinko and Hope Buchan came up with key saves. In the PK's, it was Sinko who stopped a pair of shots as the Vikings took the shootout 4-1. Jess Schildkraut scored the goal for MKA in the first half. The top-seeded Cougars played without their star, Olivia Vaughn, who was injured during the Prep B state final a week earlier. MKA finishes the season at 18-2-1. Fourth-seeded Villa Walsh improves to 14-8-2. The Vikings will meet Morris Catholic in the North Non-Public B sectional final.
