VIDEO: Major Majer! Four-goal effort lifts Butler past Pequannock | ||

Vanessa Majer scored all of the goals for Butler as the Bulldogs defeated rival Pequannock in a girls' soccer match-up, 4-1. Three of Majer's four goals came in a five-minute blitz late in the first half as Butler broke open a scoreless game. On each of the first three goals, Majer pounced on an opportunity left to her by the defense. The sophomore forward knocked home a loose ball for her first score, ran onto a deflected pass to convert the second, then finished off her lightning hat trick by pouncing on a rebound.
Majer completed her effort early in the second half with an impressive solo move past several defenders and a left-footed shot into the corner of the net. Pequannock got on the board when Julia Cucci sent a long ball ahead and Erica Aikey raced to it and fired an impressive one-timer under the crossbar. But the Panthers couldn't create a comeback from so far behind. Panther goalie Skyler Troast made five saves. Pequannock, which beat Butler 4-2 in the first meeting of these two squads, falls to 4-11. Butler goalie Tara Havrilla was credited with 16 saves. Lauren Migliorino had two assists and Brianna Rosania recorded one assist. The Bulldogs move above .500 with the win at 8-7 overall.
