What was unthinkable just a couple of years ago is now a reality. DePaul knocked off Don Bosco Prep in football for the first time, winning 35-25 on the Ironmen's home field. Kiy Hester had a huge all-around game for the Spartans, who turned the game with three second-half interceptions.
The Rutgers-bound Hester caught a pair of touchdown passes, returned a pick for a score and even completed a pass for DePaul, which improves to 2-1. The Spartans trailed 10-7 at the half before Steven Speidel started the big surge with his 67-yard touchdown run on DePaul's first offensive play of the third quarter. After an interception by Zach Butler, quarterback Zac Bednarczyk hit Hester for a score to make it 21-10. Hester then made the play of the game when he intercepted a pass near his own goal line, eluded a couple of tackles and raced down the sideline 98 yards for a score. Sophomore Kwadir Brown added to the lead in the fourth quarter when he jumped an out route and went 64 yards to paydirt, making it 35-10. Don Bosco was able to reduce its deficit with a pair of touchdown passes by reserve QB Crusco, but DePaul ran out the clock to preserve what has to be the biggest regular-season football win in school history. Don Bosco, which was ranked #1 in the nation just a couple of years ago, is now 1-3 on the season.
