Wayne Valley fought off a determined Lakeland team to earn the Passaic County boys' volleyball championship in three games. The Indians won 25-17, 24-26, 25-16 to capture the title for the second straight year. Mike Foglia led the way for Wayne Valley with 14 kills, 10 service points and nine digs. But the Indians also demonstrated their balance, as they combined for 39 kills and nine blocks on the day.
Ryan Bender notched eight kills for Wayne Valley. Ryan VanDemark had seven kills and three blocks, while Danny Sciolaro recorded six kills and two blocks. Setter Matt Widovic had 37 assists along with a pair of kills for the Indians. Lakeland made it a battle behind the efforts of Devon Reyes, Connor Field and Brian Hahn. Reyes and Field recorded 10 kills apiece, while Hahn had seven kills and a block. Zach Ponte notched 26 assists for the second-seeded Lancers, who are 17-6 this season. Wayne Valley, the top seed in the county tournament, is now 22-1 overall. The Indians look forward to the state tournament where they hope to unseat Fair Lawn as North 1 sectional champions. This was the fifth county title in seven years for Wayne Valley.
