Wayne Valley has already accomplished a great deal during this boys' volleyball season. Now the Indians will have a chance to make history. Stamping their authority on the match early, Wayne Valley rolled two a two-game sweep of Bloomfield in the North 1 sectional semifinals. The second-seeded Indians won 25-12, 25-21 to move on to Friday's section final.
Mike Foglia led Wayne Valley with 13 kills and two aces. Ryan VanDemark had six kills and a block, Danny Sciolaro scored four kills and two blocks, and David Ahn notched three kills and one block. Setter Matt Widovic recorded 25 assists and also had a pair of kills for the Indians. Third-seeded Bloomfield got 13 kills from Khalil Naoaui. Al-Samad Henderson scored seven kills for the Bengals, and Jose Bruno had 19 assists. Bloomfield, which captured the Essex County championship earlier this spring, ends the season 25-4. Wayne Valley is now 28-2. The Indians, who won the Passaic County title, will face top seed and six-time defending sectional champs Fair Lawn in the final. Wayne Valley split two matches with the Cutters this season and will be aiming for its first-ever section crown.
