The last time Wayne Hills met Old Tappan on the football field, it was a defensive battle on the turf at MetLife Stadium. Old Tappan won that game, and a sectional title, but Wayne Hills turned things around in the rematch.

Offenses stole the show as the Patriots pulled out a 34-27 home victory. Brendan Devera led the way for Wayne Hills, throwing for 229 yards and three touchdowns, while also running for a score.

Devera's 29-yard touchdown pass to Luca Grave late in the first half broke a 14-14 tie and put the Patriots on top for good. After Old Tappan cut its deficit to six points in the fourth quarter, Devera tossed a 31-yard scoring pass to Tyler Hayek to reestablish a two-touchdown edge.

The senior quarterback went 17-for-26 through the air, while rushing for 77 yards. Hunter Hayek was the Patriots' leading receiver, hauling in nine passes for 106 yards and the team's first touchdown of the night.

Grave had six catches for 85 yards, and rushed for 95 yards on 24 carries. Dario Sirni booted a pair of field goals, including a 37-yarder.

Old Tappan quarterback Jack Bilali also had a solid game, completing 10-of-21 passes for 162 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Both scoring tosses went to Ryan Weis, who ended up with three grabs for 97 yards.

James Kelly ran the ball eight times for 48 yards. He scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns as the Golden Knights tried to rally back late. But Jason Modak of Wayne Hills recovered the onside kick after the final touchdown and the Patriots ran out the clock.

It's the first loss since the 2014 state playoffs for Old Tappan, which went unbeaten last season. The Golden Knights are 2-1.

Wayne Hills has won three straight football games by seven points apiece. The Patriots are unbeaten against New Jersey opposition and ranked in the state's Top 20 with a 3-1 overall record.
