VIDEO: Cotter throws Pompton Lakes to win over New Milford | ||

Pompton Lakes didn't have much possession time, or success running the ball, in its football game against New Milford. Surprisingly, it didn't matter for the Cardinals. Despite the wet weather conditions, Pompton Lakes made a slew of big plays in the passing game en route to a 42-20 victory. Quarterback Kevin Cotter threw for 203 yards and five touchdowns to lead the way.
The game was moved from New Milford's grass field to the turf facility at nearby Dumont High School due to the soggy conditions. The Cardinals led just 21-20 entering the fourth quarter before putting the game away with three touchdowns. Cotter tossed touchdown passes to Nick Posimato and Nick McDonald, and then Chris Grecco made the only big run of the night for the Cardinals. His 73-yard scoring burst ended any doubt about the final outcome. McDonald had two touchdown catches for Pompton Lakes. Steven Sanders and John Tanis also caught scoring throws from Cotter. Christian Correa's running allowed New Milford to have a 2-to-1 edge in possession time. Correa ran the ball 42 times for 205 yards and all three Knights touchdowns. Ryan Picinic threw for 133 yards for New Milford, but suffered a pair of interceptions in the fourth quarter as he tried to lead his team from behind. The Knights fall to 2-1. Pompton Lakes gained revenge for its loss to New Milford last season and improves to 3-0 with this win.
