After upsetting West Milford in the semifinals of the 2009 Passaic County softball tournament, fourth-seeded Wayne Hills took on third seed Pompton Lakes in the final. The Cardinals fell behind early, but came back twice to tie the game.
But a two-out rally in the top of the seventh allowed the Patriots to claim the lead again, and this time they held on to claim the championship, winning by a 6-4 score. It was the first softball county title in the sports history of the school.
