DePaul made sure it didn't suffer a repeat disappointment in the Passaic County boys' lacrosse tournament final. The Spartans jumped out in front from the start, and cruised to the championship with a 15-3 triumph over Clifton. Racing out to a 5-0 lead after one quarter, top-seeded DePaul was always in command. Vince Halloran paced the balanced and dangerous Spartans attack, scoring two goals and dishing out six assists.
Any doubt in the game was erased in the third quarter, when DePaul scored seven unanswered goals to blow the game wide open. Colin Dodds and Brandon Salazar scored three goals apiece for the top-seeded Spartans. Mike Caposella and Mike Mazzanna contributed two goals and two assists apiece, and Joe Moreno also scored twice. DePaul goalie Conor Brophy made eight saves. Brian Yip had a goal and an assist for second seed Clifton. Joe Chiavetta and Mark Surgent also scored for the Mustangs in the final, played at Wayne Hills High School.
