Considering their rivalry, and the fact that both teams were highly-regarded coming into the season, you would think the Wayne Valley girls' soccer team would have all the motivation it needed for its game against Wayne Hills. But the Indians found some extra inspiration on their way to a big early-season win. Playing just hours after Wayne Valley's football team upset Hills on the same field, the Indians blanked their rivals, 2-0. Goals in each half combined with a seven-save effort by goalie Francesca Boylan did the trick for Valley.
Victoria Pugliano broke the scoreless tie late in the first half on an assist from Kelly Wieczerzak. Wayne Hills had a couple of great chances to tie the game before Jessica Cusik's goal, assisted by KC Collazo, iced the win for Wayne Valley. Bjonda Ademi made five saves for Wayne Hills, which falls to 1-1-1 on the season. Wayne Valley improves to 4-0 with the win. Team members said the football victory the prior night provided a little extra boost coming into the contest.
