A few big baskets made the difference when DePaul met Passaic Valley in the boys' basketball county quarterfinals. And those baskets went DePaul's way in an exciting 58-48 victory. With the Hornets trailing by just two points late in the third quarter, the Spartans' Donte Wise blocked a shot and Juwuan Carter finished with a dunk at the other end. A short time later, Sanders Green converted an acrobatic layup while being fouled, and his three-point play capped a vital 7-0 run for DePaul.
Green added another big three-point play early in the fourth as the Spartans maintained control of the game in the final period. Green's 20 points led DePaul, while Josh Marquez tossed in 15. Passaic Valley's Stefan Minic led all scorers with 23 points, including a trio of three-point shots. Zach Damiano added nine for the Hornets. This Passaic County quarterfinal game was originally slated to be played Saturday at Kennedy in Paterson, but the snowstorm caused all county tournament games to be moved to Monday at host school sites. Second-seeded DePaul, now 15-4, will face third seed Kennedy on the Knights' home floor Saturday at 2:00 in the semifinals. Seventh seed Passaic Valley falls to 13-7.
