A huge effort by Julius Wingate helped Dwight Morrow of Englewood avoid a boys' basketball upset. Wingate had 23 points, 16 rebounds and seven steals to lift the Maroon Raiders past North Bergen, 76-62. Englewood trailed at halftime and only led by a basket heading into the final quarter. But the Maroon Raiders scored 28 points in that final period to pull away in the game held at Kennedy High School as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
Sidney Dawkins also came up big for Englewood, scoring 20 points in the victory. Leon White added 13 and Nelson Goodwater scored 12. The sharpshooting of Anthony Rodriguez helped keep North Bergen in the game until the final minutes. Rodriguez sank six three-pointers and led the Bruins with 23 points. Kelvin Batista added 10 points. North Bergen falls to 2-8 on the season. Englewood is now 9-2 with this victory.
