|VIDEO: Ramsey roars past Mendham to reach state final|
Ramsey put on a clinic in its ice hockey state semifinal game against Mendham. The Rams took control from the opening face-off, scoring four times in the first period en route to a 7-0 victory to reach their first state final in five years.
Alex Whelan and Frank Steffe scored twice apiece for Ramsey, the #2 seed in the Public B states. Tyler Harmon didn't have much action in the first two periods but stood tall in the third to end up with a 20-save shutout.
Jack Jordan, Connor DiTomaso and Nick Botta also scored for the Rams. Ramsey had 32 shots total as it improved to 28-2 on the season.
Mendham, the sixth seed, reached this semifinal thanks to a high-powered offense. But Grant Jozefek, Paul Michura and company were bottled up until the game was well out of reach. The Minutemen finish the season 20-5-3.
The game, at Mennen Arena, was only the second time this season that Ramsey played away from its home rink, the Ice Vault. Now the Rams get to play at the Prudential Center in Newark in Sunday's state final against Morristown High School.
