North Warren found itself trailing by two touchdowns in the second quarter of its football season opener. But, thanks to the receiving of Darian Redmond and the running of Nick Heinz, the Patriots rallied to defeat Morristown-Beard, 26-19. Redmond caught six passes for 170 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Redmond had two nearly identical touchdown receptions from Sean Thornton in the third quarter as North Warren built a 26-13 lead.
Heinz rushed for 151 yards and a score as the Patriots surged back after falling behind 13-0. Thornton also threw a touchdown pass to Conor Frehill as part of the rally. Morristown-Beard took the early lead on a pair of touchdown passes by quarterback Jimmy Zilinski. Zilinski found Zach Dees with a first-quarter strike, then threw to Tyler Da Silva in the second quarter. But the Crimson did not score again until the final minute of the game, when Declan Kelly tossed a TD pass to Jack Cipriano. Morristown-Beard tried an onside kick but North Warren recovered it to clinch the win in the season opener for both squads. North Warren will take on Kinnelon in its next game while Morristown-Beard faces Newton.
