Ramapo has had some offensive explosions this season, but the Green Raiders may have outdone themselves in their sectional semifinal game. Against a strong Pascack Valley squad, Ramapo scored 35 points in the first 18 minutes en route to a 45-13 triumph. The win moves the Green Raiders into the North 1, Group III state sectional football final for the first time in three years. Ramapo will take on River Dell, a team it has already defeated this season, in the finals.
A 64-yard touchdown strike from Keith Woetzel to Ryan Curtiss on the opening drive set the tone for Ramapo. Joe O'Hagan ran for 94 yards on just 10 carries and scored three touchdowns. Woetzel added 53 rushing yards and a touchdown to his 154 passing yards on the night. Ramapo's defense also came up big, forcing several key turnovers in the first half. The Green Raiders even scored on defense, with Jack Scordato returning an interception 75 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. The loss caps an odd year for Pascack Valley. The Indians won eight games, but were beaten soundly in all three of their losses, with two of those coming against Ramapo. Matt Urrea had both touchdowns for Pascack Valley. Quarterback Colin Dedrick threw for 178 yards. Ramapo is now 10-1 and has won nine in a row since its narrow loss to Old Tappan. The Green Raiders hope to play their state final at MetLife Stadium; an announcement is expected Sunday.
