VIDEO: Bergen Catholic bumps off Delbarton to win sectional title | ||

No one in New Jersey has been able to beat the Bergen Catholic wrestling team for the past few years. At this point, even teams ranked in state's Top 5 are hardly even trying. Taking four matches by forfeit, Bergen Catholic won its fifth straight North Non-Public A sectional title, defeating Delbarton 50-9. The Green Wave came in ranked #3 in the state and yet never stood a chance to win the match.
With the team result a foregone conclusion, the evening was highlighted by three high-powered bouts in the lower weights. At 120 pounds, Bergen Catholic's Gerard Angelo defeated Patrick Glory in a rematch of last year's state final. Angelo scored a last-gasp takedown to pull out the 4-3 win. At 126, in another state final rematch, the Crusaders' Nick Suriano cruised past Ty Agaisse 9-2. Suriano remains unbeaten in his high school career. Delbarton did score a big win at 132, where Nick Farro edged Chris Foca 10-8 in overtime. Both wrestlers are top state contenders and met in the Beast of the East final this winter, where Foca had pulled out the victory. The Green Wave earned two other bout wins, both by decision, but finish their dual-meet season at 12-3. Bergen Catholic is now 14-2, with a pair of narrow losses to Pennsylvania teams. The Crusaders are overwhelming favorites in the Non-Public A state final on Sunday against St. Augustine Prep.
