|VIDEO: St. Anthony, Morristown-Beard game suspended after injury|
The season-opening football game between St. Anthony and Morristown-Beard turned into an offensive slugfest, with the hosts building a 30-20 lead. But the two teams never got a chance to finish off the game.
An injury to a St. Anthony player eventually led to a suspension of the game midway through the third quarter. The player, Jaeden White, had to be taken to the hospital due to what turned out to be a concussion. When the ambulance never returned to the field, the officials halted the game since state rules require an ambulance present at all football games.
The game is supposed to be completed at some time this fall if the two teams can find an acceptable date.
Before the stoppage, St. Anthony fullback Khalil Vance was having a huge night. Vance ran for three touchdowns, including a 61-yard rush and a 59-yard scamper.
Ty Black also had a touchdown run for the Friars.
Morristown-Beard got 97 yards rushing and a touchdown from Tahj Valentine. Quarterback Declan Kelly ran for 94 yards and tossed a touchdown pass to Jack Cipriano.
Ryan Russo also had a touchdown run for the Crimson, which had reached the red zone looking to cut into the lead when the game was halted.
