VIDEO: Defense, running lift West Essex past Parsippany Hills
Written by - Friday, October 14 2016

A pair of key defensive moments helped West Essex secure the lead in its football game against Parsippany Hills. Then the Knights' running game helped put the game away with a 99-yard drive as West Essex earned a 28-14 win.

Vincent Scaglia returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown to break a tie in the third quarter. Then, after Parsippany Hills drove deep into Knights' territory, the West Essex defense came up with a huge goal-line stand to preserve the lead.

Following that stop, West Essex marched 99 yards on 16 plays to put the game away. All but one play was a run as the Knights took nine minutes off the clock.

Mike Lacovara led West Essex with 114 rushing yards. Scaglia had 73 yards on the ground with a touchdown, Will Perez rushed for 60 yards and a score, and Brian O'Neill added 70 yards running.

Zach Lemanski completed only three passes, but one was a 70-yard touchdown on a screen pass to Drew Lepre.

O'Neill led the Knights on defense with 11 tackles and two sacks.

Parsippany Hills scored two touchdowns in the second quarter, on runs by Nick Verducci and Marco Falivene. The Vikings fall to 2-4.

West Essex bounces back from a heartbreaking loss to Chatham to improve to 4-2.
