Christian Correa has had some big performances for the New Milford football team this season. He saved his best for when the Knights really needed it. Correa carried 37 times for 320 yards and all six touchdowns as New Milford locked up a berth in the state playoffs with a 43-15 win over Waldwick/Midland Park. Facing the possibility of elimination with a loss, the Knights instead secured the second seed in North 1, Group I with the victory.
With a 31-yard pass reception added in for good measure, Correa accounted for nearly 90% of New Milford's offense on the night. He now has 28 touchdowns this season, making him one of the leading scorers in the entire state of New Jersey. Matt McElroy had 13 tackles and a sack for the Knights. Nick Klein and Anthony Rivera both made interceptions. Waldwick came into the game with only one loss, but fell behind 14-0 quickly and could never fight back into the contest. Matt Messner had a touchdown run for the Warriors and Garrett King tossed a touchdown pass to Sean Fitzpatrick. Now 6-2, Waldwick dropped to the fifth seed in North 1, Group II and will play its first round game on the road at Westwood. That's a rematch of the 2013 and 2014 sectional finals, both won by the Cardinals. New Milford is also 6-2. While the second seed means a home game in the first round in North 1, Group I, the Knights drew a challenging opponent in 7-1 Belvidere.
