VIDEO: Ramapo bests Bergenfield in second round of states
Written by - Thursday, March 2 2017

Defense has been Ramapo's calling card throughout this boys' basketball season, even during its offensive droughts. In their sectional quarterfinal game, the Green Raiders stifled Bergenfield en route to a 48-28 victory.

Leading by just four points at the half, Ramapo allowed only 11 points following the break as it pulled away for the victory.

John Whooley led the seventh-seeded Raiders offensively, scoring 17 points. Jason Oppler had 13 points and K.C. Hunt added 10.

Bergenfield's high scorer was Justin Pineda with just six points. The 15th-seeded Bears stunned #2 seed Sparta in the first round, but could not find a second straight upset as they finish the season at 9-14.

Ramapo is now 16-11 and will bring a six-game winning streak into its North 1, Group III sectional semifinal contest, a road game against third seed River Dell.
