Jurewicz scores 4 TD's as DePaul squeezes Orange

DePaul 41
Orange 19

On the night of their football home opener, the DePaul Spartans put forth an impressive victory in front of a packed crowd.  After much preparation all week in anticipation of facing a tough Orange High School side, DePaul came out hard from the start and convincingly dominated the opposition.

In a game where DePaul owned every aspect except for the big plays, Coach John McKenna ran his run-first offense to perfection.

Without a doubt, the strength of this football team comes in the form of the running game and tonight was certainly no exception.  James Jurewicz rushed for 236 yards behind a mean offensive line that cleared the way for the senior captain. Shedding many tackles on the way to a 41-19 victory, Jurewicz took the game ball in a convincing fashion.

Orange, which struggled on defense, showed great promise on the offensive side but it was not enough to keep up with the opposition. Running mostly out of the shotgun offense, they ran reverses, options and draw plays to keep the Spartans defense on their toes the entire night. The speed of quickness of every skill player on offense led to their two big scores which gave them hope until the fourth quarter.

After the impressive victory, Coach McKenna could only be upset about one thing. “Tackling. We have got to do a better job of tackling.”

With such a young team that succeeded in almost every aspect of tonight’s game, McKenna is very excited for the rest of the high school football season. “I have always been very confident. We have only a few seniors but I am confident in what this team can do.”    If the Spartans can run the ball like they did tonight, they should have no problem “tackling” any opponent that comes in their path. -- Jersey Sports Now
