Spartans stay unbeaten with dominating victory

DePaul 11
Passaic Valley 2

DePaul’s offensive outburst against Passaic Valley gave them a double digit win.  Peter Ross had a night to remember, scoring five times to lead the Spartans to the 11-2 victory.  DePaul goes to 3-0 in this young high school ice hockey season and looks very solid out of the gate.

The early moments of the contest yielded DePaul goals by Joey Redmon and Ross, helping ease the nerves that coach Frank Krause said he felt before the opening faceoff.  These two teams have a feisty rivalry and coach Krause noted that he knew Passaic Valley had a good hockey team and was coming to play.

The game was over by the end of the first period as DePaul took a 5-0 lead and never looked back.  DePaul was simply a step quicker and was relentless on the attack.  Passaic Valley wasn’t able to match DePaul’s intensity in the first two periods.  The third period was evenly played as the Hornets showed potential for a successful hockey season.

Passaic Valley had a very good season last year with a 20-5-2 record, and losing only two seniors, they are expected to have a strong season.  Regardless of the score tonight, this team has plenty of experienced players to turn this forgettable night into a positive motivator.

DePaul took advantage of its rival’s slow start and untimely mistakes.  The scoring has improved with every game leading to this outburst.  Coach Krause alluded to the fact that he changed his number-one line putting Peter Ross, Scott Steinel and Joey Redmon together for the first time this season.  It is safe to say that coach Krause will keep this line and will be hoping they’ll have many more nights like this.  -- Emir Liguori for Jersey Sports Now
