DePaul lost its football season opener to St. Joseph of Montvale, but the Spartans believed they were ready to upset the Green Knights in the semifinals of the Non-Public Group III state tournament. After a closely-contested first quarter, though, it would be all St. Joe's once again. The loss ended an eight-game win streak for DePaul, which finished its season at 8-3.
