Kinnelon made its debut in the Mennen Division in style, beating Morristown-Beard 4-1 at Skylands Ice World in Stockholm. The Colts improved to 2-0 in their defense of the Public B ice hockey State Championship title, so far making a statement that they must be reckoned with again this season.

The Colts had to endure the constant pressure by Morristown Beard for most of the game. And, as good teams often do, the Colts made the most of the few opportunities they had. Senior captain Peter Crampton scored on the team's first shot and soon after he assisted on one for his brother Mike to take a 2-0 advantage.
In the second period Morristown Beard caged the Colts in their zone with constant pressure. Inevitably, this pressure yielded power play opportunities, but the Crimson could not take advantage. The Colts actually increased their lead when Jordan Halpin scored off a deflection. Mo-Beard finally broke through in the third period, but Peter Crampton scored his second goal into an empty net to clinch the win.
The game ended just the way it started with Morristown-Beard applying the pressure and controlling tempo. The Colts' goalie, Jeff Molner stopped over 25 shots, showing great poise to give his team its first division win.
This year's team, although younger, seems to be more disciplined, according to coach Jeff Myhren. With only one senior on the team, the underclassmen have filled in the holes left by ten graduating players from last year's state champs.
While the Colts will face tougher opponents in the Mennen division night in and night out, they do expect to be a front runner in the division and coach Myhren has his team focused and ready for the task. Already with nine goals in two games, the Colts offense looks sharp. And, when you combine that with great goaltending, you have to like their chances to have another special hockey season. -- Emir Liguori for Jersey Sports Now
