Herd dominates once again to improve to 7-0

Mountain Lakes 41
Glen Ridge 11

Facing a team with a strong record coming into the game, Mountain Lakes treated Glen Ridge like they have most of their football opponents this year.  The Herd controlled the contest from the start en route to a 41-11 triumph to remain undefeated on the fall sports season.

The Herd's strong running game was the story as they scored six touchdowns on the ground.  Mountain Lakes had a strong showing defensively allowing only a field goal until the final moments of the contest.   The win improves their aspiration of a higher seed going into the New Jersey football state tournament.

Senior Captain Greg DeLuca opened the scoring after an eight play, 59 yard drive.  DeLuca scored another two touchdowns including one on a 75 yard run.  The offensive line led by Pat Flynn, performed superbly setting up big runs and overpowering Glen Ridge’s defensive front.

Quarterback Jack Reilly was complimentary of the entire offensive line.  “They did a great job controlling the game and opening up holes,” he said.

The Herd's defense was mostly able to neutralize Glen Ridge’s offense.  On two drives inside the Lakers 25 yard line, Mountain Lakes was able to stand their ground only allowing a field goal, and in the process, shattering any hopes Glen Ridge had of getting back in the football game.

Mountain Lakes, now at 7-0, will prepare for a matchup with Cedar Grove who are also unbeaten.  The Herd will love nothing more than beating Cedar Grove and earning a high seed going into the state tournament.  Coach Doug Wilkins said, “It's a big rivalry game for us.  They're well-coached, defending state champions, so that's huge.  And it will affect greatly our seeding for the state playoffs.”  --Emir Liguori for Jersey Sports Now
