Pequannock scored on a long kickoff return for a touchdown, but otherwise were shut out in a 34-6 season-opening football defeat at Montville on Friday night in an opener between two Jersey Sports Now-area teams.

The Panthers trailed 14-0 when Kyle Forrest took a kickoff at his own 10-yard line, broke a couple of tackles and carried it 90 yards for the score. But Pequannock couldn't keep it close, as Al Martello responded with an 80-yard touchdown run for Montville. The Mustangs scored again before halftime and were well on their way to victory.
Pequannock hopes to break into the win column this coming Friday night when they host Caldwell.
