Pompton Lakes wanted to defend its home turf in the first round of the New Jersey wrestling state tournament. The third-seeded Cardinals built a big lead over sixth seed Emerson-Park Ridge, only to see the visitors rally back. But Pompton Lakes got the big wins in the end to clinch the victory.
