A dramatic Sparta home run in the top of the 7th inning broke up a tie game and dealt West Milford a tough 5-2 defeat in the finals of the North 1, Group III softball playoffs. It wasn't the only shocker of the day, as longtime coach Jim Dransfield unexpectedly announced his retirement just hours later. Sparta would eventually go on to win the state Group III title.
