Madison took charge right away in its state field hockey semifinal game against Summit, but the Dodgers couldn't shake the pesky Hilltoppers. Finally, in the later stages of the second half, Madison put away a 4-1 triumph to advance to the Group II state final. Four different Dodgers scored in a balanced offensive attack. Elizabeth Romano, Kaitlyn DaSilva and Stephanie Dellavia had a goal and an assist each. Emma Ticknor also scored for Madison.
The Dodgers took a 2-0 lead midway through the first half, but Summit responded with its best stretch of play. The Hilltoppers earned five corners, eventually cashing in when Sophie Pollinger converted a pass from Ariana Tsanas. Although Madison came out of halftime strong and dominated play, the score remained 2-1 until less than 13 minutes remained in the game. Kyra Mobley set up Romano, who flipped the ball into the cage. DaSilva's goal seven minutes later locked the win away for the Dodgers. Julie Woloshin made 10 saves for Summit. The Hilltoppers, the North 2, Group II sectional champions, finish their season with a 14-8-1 record. Madison improves to 19-1.
