Playing stifling defense while showing explosive ability on the offensive end, Hudson Catholic soared to a 70-36 boys' basketball win over Paterson Kennedy. The Hawks raced out to a big early lead in the game, part of the Freedom Fighters' Challenge event played at Eastside High School in Paterson. Hudson Catholic led 19-4 after one quarter and 35-12 at the half. The Hawks held Kennedy's talented Alphonso Gee to just five points in the first half, all on free throws. Gee broke out in the second half, finishing with 21 points, but Kennedy never got closer than 16 points.
Offensively, Hudson Catholic put forth a balanced effort. Jahvon Quinerly and Nassir Barrino led the Hawks with 16 points apiece. Sammy Friday threw down a couple of dunks as he scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Marion Williams also had 13 points and added five assists. Hudson Catholic, ranked #7 in New Jersey in a recent poll, is 10-2 on the season. The Hawks are undefeated against in-state opposition. Kennedy falls to 7-3.
