VIDEO: Earning respect -- Montclair pulls out tie with Middletown North
Written by - Friday, January 15 2016

It doesn't go in the record books as a win, but the Montclair ice hockey team was feeling good after its game with Middletown North. The Mounties twice rallied from behind to tie the top-ranked public school team in New Jersey, 4-4.

Remy Parker's second goal tied the game with 12 minutes to play, and neither side could score after that in front of a frenetic crowd at Clary Anderson Arena. Parker added an assist for Montclair.

Brock Bowers and Mike Gerne notched a goal and an assist apiece for the Mounties, who trailed 2-0 after one period. Cliff Lindholm contributed two assists.

Kevin Felice recorded a hat trick for Middletown North, the defending Public B state champions. His third goal gave the Lions a 4-3 lead early in the final period, but Parker answered back just seven seconds later to tie the score.

John Hallard had a goal and an assist for Middletown North, while Vincent Tomasetti collected two assists. Goalie Jake Frontera made 23 saves.

The Lions are 9-1-1 on the season; their only loss came against Christian Brothers, the defending Private state champ.

Ondrej Smalec had a strong performance in net for Montclair, keeping his team in the game during its early struggles. Smalec made 36 saves overall.

The tie is the first smudge on Montclair's record this season, but at 12-0-1, the Mounties are still just one of two remaining unbeaten teams in the Garden State.
