The Ridgewood boys' lacrosse team got a major early-season test from a determined Hunterdon Central squad. And thanks to a goal in the third overtime from Cooper Telesco, the Maroons were able to slip by with a win. Telesco's second goal of the game gave Ridgewood the 8-7 triple-overtime victory in what was a very evenly played game. The Maroons pulled out the win in a battle of state-ranked teams despite giving up two goals in the final two minutes that forced the overtime.
Kevin Mollihan led the Ridgewood attack with three goals. Griffin Peene, Wylie Sherman and Dylan Peabody also scored for the Maroons. Goalies Ted Murphy and Ben Pounds combined to make 10 saves for Ridgewood. Hunterdon Central played from behind most of the game, but never panicked and stayed in the game. Kyle Johnson led the Red Devils with three goals. Ben Coakley and Connor Coiante had a goal and an assist apiece. Stephen Johnson and Owen Lyons also scored for Hunterdon Central, and Nolan Riche made nine saves. The Red Devils fall to 1-1 on the season. Ridgewood, which opened the year with an easy victory, gets to 2-0 with the non-conference win.
