For the fourth time this season, the Ridgewood boys' lacrosse team came out on top in a one-goal game. The Maroons earned a 9-8 road win over Westfield in a match-up of state-ranked teams by holding off a late comeback attempt. Cooper Telesco had three goals to lead the attack for Ridgewood. Griffin Peene scored two goals, while Kevin Mollihan and Jack Kiernan contributed a goal and an assist apiece.
Wylie Sherman and Dylan Peabody also added goals. Ted Murphy and Ben Pounds combined to make eight saves. Ridgewood never led in the first half, but jumped in front 6-3 with three straight goals in the third quarter. Westfield came back to tie the score with just over seven minutes remaining, only to see the Maroons pump in three more goals to seemingly put the game away. The Blue Devils made things interesting by scoring twice in the final minute, but Ridgewood controlled the next faceoff and ran out the clock. Nick Bond and Brandon Leuthold both had hat tricks for Westfield. James Bohlinger notched a goal and four assists. Defenseman Owen Colwell also scored for the Blue Devils and Toby Burgdorf made 10 saves. Westfield, which has faced a daunting schedule thus far this season, falls to 2-5. Ridgewood remains unbeaten at 7-0. For sports video highlights of this New Jersey high school boys' lacrosse game, click play in the box at left. |
