A dominating first half gave way to some frantic final minutes. But the Wayne Hills boys' soccer team still had enough in the tank to hold on for a 2-1 victory over Passaic Valley. Julian Roma had a goal and helped create the other for the Patriots, who won their second game in three tries this season. Goalie Grant Kelly had seven saves.
Roma's goal came on an acrobatic header as he was falling away from the goal, lofting it up and over the Hornets' keeper. He also drew the foul that resulted in a second-half penalty kick, converted by Tyler Kulcsar to make it 2-0. Passaic Valley drew within a goal on a penalty kick by Josh Hurtado, but could not find a tying score. Mitko Bozinov had eight saves for the Hornets, who are now 2-2 on the season.
