A pair of quick goals and a stubborn defensive effort allowed Paramus Catholic to pull off a surprise boys' soccer victory over DePaul. The Paladins matched their win total from last season with the 2-0 home triumph. JoJo Strobino headed in a long ball ahead from Diego Gomera to put Paramus Catholic ahead a little more than 10 minutes into the game. Just a short time later, the Paladins earned a penalty kick, and Dylan Evande hammered it home to double the lead.
Paramus Catholic frustrated the dangerous DePaul offense for much of the game, denying many scoring opportunities. The Spartans opened things up in the waning moments of the contest and created a number of chances, but missed some of their opportunities and were denied by goalkeeper Matt Miller on several others. DePaul goalies Luke Van Winkle and Matthew Fiorentino combined for four saves. The Spartans suffered their first loss of the season to fall to 2-1-1. Paramus Catholic is now 2-2 after winning just two games all of last season.
