Controlling possession and using its speed, the Paramus Catholic girls' soccer team continued its fine season with a 4-1 victory over DePaul. Juliana Mascelli scored twice to lead the Paladins. Mascelli converted an early penalty kick to stake Paramus Catholic to the lead. She also scored later in the first half, after Melyna Portal had given the Paladins a two-goal advantage.
DePaul answered late in the first half, when a beautiful pass from Alyssa Oviedo set up Ronnie Caggiano for a score. But Paramus Catholic would dominate the second half, and put the game away on a goal by Gemma Perez off a feed from Portal. Karina Banas and Isabel Villar also had assists for the Paladins. Goalie Reyna Villar made four saves. Alli Hennion had four saves and Rilee Keenan added three saves for DePaul. The Spartans are now 5-7-1.
