Bergen Catholic scored a convincing victory to open the boys' soccer season. Controlling most of the game, the Crusaders cruised to a 3-0 road triumph against league rival DePaul. Miles Franklyn, Stephen Teitelbaum and Joe Santin scored the goals for Bergen Catholic, which took a 2-0 lead about midway through the first half. Cole Bosch got credit for an assist.
The Bergen Catholic defense allowed only three shots on goal in the entire game. Goalie Nick VaFiadis was not seriously tested as he made the three saves to earn the shutout. Goalie Freddy Semrau made a number of saves for DePaul, which will play a series of public school teams before its next opponent in the Big North Conference's United Division. Bergen Catholic is ranked in the state's Top 20 to start the season. For sports video highlights of this New Jersey and Big North high school boys' soccer game, click play in the box at left. |
