River Dell had fewer scoring chances in its boys' soccer game with DePaul, but the Golden Hawks made one of those chances count. As a result, River Dell pulled out a surprising 1-0 road victory in Big North Conference play. Matthew DeBenedetto scored the game's only goal midway through the second half. Santiago Chaverra's crossing pass found its way through to DeBenedetto, who turned and put the ball into the upper corner, just off the goalie's fingertips.
DePaul had numerous scoring chances in the contest, including a couple of golden opportunities in the final few minutes. But the Spartans missed many of their shots, and when they did put the ball on frame, River Dell goalkeeper Luke Farrell made the key saves. Freddy Semrau made a handful of stops for DePaul. The Spartans have yet to score a goal this season as they fall to 0-2. River Dell, which dropped its opening game in overtime, is now 1-1.
