DePaul had a couple of tough games on its way to the Passaic County girls' basketball final. But in the title game, the 4th-seeded Spartans would not have much trouble with second seed Eastern Christian. Taking control early in the contest, DePaul rolled to a 54-32 victory and its first county championship in 15 years.
Jade Walker scored 15 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for the Spartans. Starr Breedlove, whose transfer to DePaul made headlines, played a less-prominent role in this game, with 11 points, but helped slow down Eastern Christian's top player. Brianne Traub did still score 16 points for the Eagles and notched 10 rebounds, but the 2,000-pont scorer was never given much space to operate. Eastern Christian trailed by 10 points after one quarter and DePaul was in charge from that point forward.
