The magic continues for the Morristown-Beard boys' basketball team. Raphael Castillo hit a pull-up jumper from the foul line just before the final buzzer for a 52-51 win over Morristown in the Morris County Tournament semifinals, putting the Crimson in the final for the first time ever. Castillo's game-winning shot came after Morristown had rallied in the fourth quarter to take a three-point lead with just over 20 seconds left to go. But Brian Monaghan hit a driving layup, and the Colonials then missed a free throw to set up the final play.
Monaghan paced the top-seeded Crimson with 20 points. Castillo finished with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Justin Rodriguez had seven points. Morristown, the fourth seed, got 19 points and eight rebounds from Kevin Hoehn. Ashton Pardie scored 11 points and Luke Haralampoudis added nine for the Colonials. The loss drops Morristown to 16-7. Morristown-Beard improves to 21-3 with the win. The Crimson will meet Chatham in next weekend's county championship game, which like this contest, will be played at the County College of Morris.
