VIDEO: St. Joe's wears down Delbarton to avoid upset | ||

For months, all the talk about the St. Joseph vs. Delbarton football game centered on how uneven the game would be. For nearly three quarters, though, the contest could not have been much more balanced. Finally, St. Joe's broke through to score three straight touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters to pull out the unexpectedly tough win. The Green Knights won 28-14 as they eventually wore down Delbarton with their size.
Jordan Scott rushed for 115 yards and a pair of touchdowns for St. Joe's. Louis Acceus had 70 rushing yards, while Isaiah Hopkinson compiled 43 yards on the ground and scored once. Nick Patti went 9-for-15 passing for 117 yards, and tossed a touchdown pass to Yasir Berry. Delbarton was hampered offensively by the absence of its regular quarterback, but took an early lead on a 39-yard touchdown run by Luca Tria. Tria ended up with 63 yards on the day. The Green Wave couldn't muster much more until it trailed 28-7 in the final minutes. Cole Kreshpane, who totalled 51 rushing yards, scored a consolation touchdown for the visitors. This game, scheduled as part of the new North Jersey Super Football Conference, was in doubt until little more than a week beforehand. Delbarton contended that it should not have to play the powerhouse football programs such as St. Joe's, but left with no other option but to forfeit, agreed to go ahead with the game. St. Joe's is now 2-1, and will next play on October 1 against rival Bergen Catholic. Delbarton is 1-1 heading into its game this weekend against Pope John.
